Karen Cheng is a patent agent in the Henderson, Nevada office of Bayramoglu Law Offices LLC where she is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
Prior to working at Bayramoglu Law Offices, Karen was a primary patent examiner in Technology Center 1600 at the USPTO for over 10 years. She granted over 600 patents primarily related to organic chemistry small molecule compounds having drug/medicinal purposes, pharmaceutical compositions, methods of using small molecule compounds and methods of synthesis of these compounds. While at the USPTO, Karen earned the Bronze Medal Award for Superior Performance for quality work as an examiner over a sustained time period. She also assisted with outreach based out of the USPTO San Jose Regional Office by developing and presenting educational materials/programs about USPTO initiatives and IP law, including overview of patent law statutes (U.S.C. 101, 102, 103, 112).
Karen obtained her B.S. in Chemistry from MIT where she synthesized small molecules to coordinate with metal centers in order to mimic the active site of methane monooxygenase. She also worked as an organic chemist for a pharmaceutical company in San Diego before earning her M.S. in Chemistry with thesis work entitled “Synthetic Applications of C-H Bond Activation Chemistry” from UC – Berkeley
Karen enjoys learning about new inventions and helping inventors protect their ideas through obtaining strong patents. Outside of work, she can be found hiking, eating at new restaurants and taking her dog to the beach.
