Alparslan Asan is a patent agent at Bayramoglu Law Offices LLC. With a strong background in molecular biology and pharmaceutical innovation, he brings deep technical expertise to patent prosecution and intellectual property matters in the life sciences and chemical fields.
Before joining Bayramoglu Law Offices, Mr. Asan served as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for five years, where he examined patent applications related to organic compounds. His work covered a range of technologies including drug delivery systems, steroids, herbicides, pesticides, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. During his time at the USPTO, Mr. Asan prepared over 500 office actions, maintained a 0% error rate, and had every appeal affirmed by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Prior to entering the legal field, Mr. Asan spent several years conducting academic research in molecular pharmacology. Mr. Asan earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Washington. Following his undergraduate studies, he worked for two years as a Research Scientist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. There, he led a project that resulted in the discovery of a previously unknown role of a gene in the development of the intestine in C. elegans, and was the first author of a peer-reviewed publication documenting the findings. To further pursue scientific inquiry, Mr. Asan completed a Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His doctoral research focused on the development of targeted therapeutics for triple-negative breast cancer, leading to the creation of a promising drug candidate and the formation of a pharmaceutical startup.
Mr. Asan is the first author of two peer-reviewed publications and a co-author on four additional papers published in leading scientific journals, including Journal of Biological Chemistry, British Journal of Cancer, PLoS Genetics, PLoS ONE, and Redox Biology. His work has contributed to advances in cancer therapy and developmental biology and has been recognized through two competitive research fellowships.
Mr. Asan is currently completing his J.D. at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University, where he also serves as a Junior Staff Member of the Duquesne Law Review. He is expected to graduate in May 2026, after which he will be eligible to practice as a patent attorney.
